GTA 6 Launch Times & Preload: Be Playing at Second One

Published July 19, 2026 · 4 min read · updated as Rockstar confirms details

The two ways Rockstar launches games

Rockstar hasn't announced exact unlock times for November 19 yet — but they only ever use two playbooks, so you can plan for both. This page updates the hour they confirm.

Either way: the night of November 18 is launch night in the Americas. Book the day off now — you will not be the only one.

Preload: when can you download?

Rockstar preloads have historically opened 48–96 hours before launch (RDR2 gave consoles several days). Expect preload around November 15–17. Buy digital and the download finishes while you sleep — launch night is for playing, not staring at a progress bar.

How big will the download be?

Not confirmed. For scale: GTA V grew to ~100GB with updates, RDR2 shipped around ~120GB, and flagship open-worlds keep climbing. Plan for 150GB+ free space and clear your SSD the week before. If your internet is slow, preload isn't optional — a 150GB day-one download on launch night is how you watch Twitch instead of playing.

What about PC players?

No PC version at launch — history says 12–18 months later. If you're PC-only, launch week is still your intel window: the economy meta discovered on console is the head start you walk in with. The money playbook will be battle-tested by then.
